Located along the lively Gurney Drive, one of Penang’s must-visit hotspots, Gurney Bay is one of the latest additions to the island’s list of attractions. Officially opened in early 2024, this coastal park features several playgrounds, a mini obstacle course, a skatepark, and a scenic seaside promenade perfect for day or night strolls.
Parts of the area are still under development, including a mangrove garden, F&B outlets, and a retail section—expected to launch later this year. Definitely one for your travel wishlist!

Eating is easily one of the best things to do in Penang, and while street food is a must, why not shake things up with a more unique dining experience?
Enter Food Bayana — Malaysia’s first semi-automated food court. This open-air, two-level food hub opened last year and boasts over 30 stalls serving everything from beloved local dishes to international bites.
But what really sets it apart? The futuristic dining concept—no more queuing at stalls. Simply scan the QR code on your table to order, and once your food is ready, robotic servers will deliver it right to you!

One of Penang’s coolest new family attractions, UFOREA, is the largest indoor playground on the island. Opened in October 2024, this futuristic-themed play space is filled with interactive zones that both kids and adults can enjoy.
From a glow-in-the-dark bubble pit to costume corners and nine imaginative zones for exploration, entry comes with unlimited playtime! There’s also a parent lounge area for those needing a breather while the kids have their fun.
TripZilla tip: Prefer more options? Check out Little Kidsland, another new family-friendly destination in town.

Need a break from Penang’s tropical heat (or sudden downpours)? Head to Antarctic Snow World, Malaysia’s first attraction of its kind.
Spanning 6,000 square feet, this icy escape features snow slides, ice sculptures, an ice bar, and other winter-themed activities. It’s the perfect place to cool down and snap some frosty selfies.

Located in Batu Feringghi, Coco Nana opened in late 2024 and has quickly become a go-to beach café for locals and visitors alike. With its chill Bali-style vibes and breathtaking ocean views, it’s the perfect place to unwind with a refreshing drink in hand.
TripZilla tip: Visit during sunset for an unforgettable experience (and a stunning Instagram shot)!

Thanks to TikTok and a global obsession with furry friends, Penang’s cat cafés are booming. One viral favourite is Munchkin & The Gang Cat Café, home to a group of irresistibly short-legged cats.
Want even more fluff? Visit the newly opened Catzland Café, where you can sip coffee while surrounded by over 30 adoptable cats!

Nestled in Teluk Bahang, the Cat Beach Sanctuary is a nonprofit-run haven for over 300 rescued cats. Don’t be surprised if a curious clowder of cats comes running to greet you—it’s their beach, after all!
While you enjoy the sea breeze and coastal views, you’re also helping support a great cause. Many of the cats here are up for adoption, too!

Opened in November 2024, Marina De Captain is a floating food court set aboard a retired ferry, bringing back nostalgic vibes of Penang’s seafaring past.
Moored along the coastline, the ferry can be accessed by a bridge and offers an array of local and international dishes. Starting from 4:30 PM daily, it’s an especially popular spot at sunset when the view becomes simply magical.

Penang is known for its malls, but The Waterfront Shoppes, slated to open in 2025, is set to be the most ambitious yet.
As Penang’s first and largest seaside mall, it will span 680,000 square feet and feature a 20,000-square-foot food court, making it a new must-visit for shopaholics and foodies alike.

One of Penang’s top attractions, Entopia Butterfly Farm, has unveiled a brand-new night experience: Entopia By Night.
Open only on Friday and Saturday nights (7PM–10PM), this one-of-a-kind experience lets you explore the butterfly garden under the stars, surrounded by glowing, biofluorescent plants and creatures.
You can enjoy UV dining, try a glowing temporary tattoo, and explore an enchanting world.
